This article, http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2010/04/100409-energy-google-powermeter/, tells about the new software by google called Powermeter which moniters a household's energy consumtion over a given period of time. The program itself is free to download, yet those wishing to use it must hook up their appliances with a piece of hardware called "The energy detective". Many supporters of this new technology want it to be a household standard in America.
I love the idea of a tool that illustrates energy consumption in such a clear, precise way. My only question is- why has this not come out sooner? Now, as with any new technology (ie cell phones, lap tops), it will take a very long time for this to become a standard in American homes. I feel that Powermeter and The Energy Detective could be one step closer for America toward building a cleaner, greener nation.
