Fly Gut Bacteria Could Control Sleeping Sickness

This article was about how the Sleeping sickness can be designed into a way to kill the parasites in the disease. Current drugs in Africa are extremely expensive and creating a more effective way to control the parasite will help many people. By giving people a better opportunity to control the sickness, more lives will be saved. Scientist Anne Geiger says: "Our work could lead to an alternatative vector-based approach that exploits selected strains of bacteria naturally present in the fly's gut to either kill the parasite, or prevent it from establishing it in the gut," This disease is also dangerous to animals. It can establish itself in cows and other animals. This negatively impacts the African economy.

I think that this article was interesting because I didn't even know about this disease. It's also sad to me because Africa has to deal with so many diseases because of lack of medical care. I think that if a cure or a way to prevent this was created, life would be a lot better for the African people. This is a great breakthrough also for these people because it affected so many people. It also messed up the economy because the Sleeping Sickness even effected livestock.
