Volcanic ash shuts down European airports

France, Switzerland, Italy, and Germany had to shut down many airports on Sunday, May 2 due to volcanic ash. This volcanic ash was coming from a volcano in Iceland. It was a Glacier- Capped volcano. The ash in the air stretched to Portugal and Spain in the same day. Portugal cancelled 232 flights and made people wait it out. This was an all day thing because it started really early Sunday and lasted until late in the afternoon. The airports say you have to cancel flights when things like this happens because trying to locate different routes can still be dangerous. Once volcanic ash spreads, it spreads everywhere in a matter of time.

I think the airports did the right thing by cancelling flights. It didn't matter how mad the people got, you were doing it for their safety. I hope this doesn't happen very often because it could mess up businesses, the airports, and people's plans. Volcanic ash could also cause tons of pollution to our environment which isn't safe for our health. I think it's crazy how the ash spread to Portugal and Spain in the same day. That means there was a lot of ash in the air and it traveled very quickly. It would be great if a scientist or someone could come up with something to prevent volcanoes from exploding out of no where like that, but I guess there isn't much you can do. It just happens.
